Together with ERM and our stakeholders we model three distinct pathways to 2050 reaching net zero by different routes. They align to NESO's tRESP pathways which provide the scale of low-carbon technologies expected in the short-term and long-term — tRESP common planning assumptions are used to model the future load impact from these low-carbon technologies.

Net zero met using high levels of hydrogen dispatchable power plants, with reduced need for renewable and nuclear capacity, through fast progress for hydrogen in industry and heat. Some hydrogen is used for heavy goods vehicles and heat boilers, although most heat is electrified and electric vehicle uptake is strong.
